Week 1 challenge
Welcome Back!!
This week we started looking at Phases of Matter. We learnt about Solids, Liquids and Gases. State whether the following are a solid, liquid or a gas.
1. Oil
2. Leather bag
3. Coke
4. The bubbles in the Coke
5. A Coke can
6. Soil
7. Oros
8. Steam from the kettle
9. A cupcake
10. A fire
Check out this video about phases of matter.
Week 2 challenge
This week we got to see a cool experiment. This experiment showed us how phases can change state. We learnt four different processes: how we change (1) a solid to a liquid, (2) a liquid to a gas, (3) a gas to a liquid, and (4) a liquid back to a solid. Answer to questions below to see how well you understood this week's work.
1. Name the process in which a solid changes to a liquid.
2. Name the process in which a gas turns into a liquid.
3. Name the process in which a liquid changes into a gas.
4. Name the process in which a liquid changes into a solid.
5. Click on the links below. Which process does each link to? Choose from the processes above.
A) B) C)
D)
6. Is GLASS a solid, liquid or gas?
7. Have some fun and attempt to make homemade ice cream!

Week 3 challenge
This week we looked at our exciting Water Cycle! What an amazing story! Look at the diagram below to help you answer the questions that follow. Because NEXT week is a holiday, you have more time to complete this challenge! Remember... every challenge will help in the exams and tests :)
1) What is the earth's main source of heat and energy? [1]
2) What happens to the water in the lakes and rivers when the particles have a lot of energy? [1]
3) Are the water particles losing heat or gaining heat as they evaporate? [1]
4) Name the process in which the water particles form clouds. [1]
5) What colour are clouds when they are full of water and ready to burst? [1]
6) What are clouds made of? [1]
7) Is it true that we are using the same water as the dinosaurs did? Explain your answer by linking the dinosaur picture on the right with an explanation on the left. (Write out the explanation) [2]
8) What do we call the evaporation from plants and animals? [1]
9) Name 4 different forms of precipitation. [4]
10) Draw your own picture of the Water Cycle. Remember to label your drawing - use the labels below. [7]
[TOTAL=20]
Evaporation ; Condensation ; Transpiration ; Precipitation ;
Clouds ; Ocean and rivers
Week 6 + 7 challenge
This week we started working on our technology projects! How exciting to build a model bridge!
This week I challenge you to find ideas that will make your project stand out from the others. Spend the weekend gathering the most exciting materials to add to your project.
For example:
* leaves for the roof
* coke bottle caps
* straws
* scrap bits of fabric
* toothpicks
* ice cream sticks
* different colour paper
Week 5 challenge
This week's focus was looking at the properties of materials. We discussed 10 different properties. We also had lots of fun making up our own Properties Song. Here is this week's challenge:
1. Name the object in each link/picture.
2. Link each picture/video to the most appropriate property from the list in the box below. You may only use each property once.
flexible ; stiff ; absorbant ; waterproof ; soft ; hard ; weak ; strong ; light ; heavy
Week 8 challenge
What a great week we had building our model structures!
This week your challenge is to make the most fantastic mind maps or flash cards that will be used to study from for tests and the November exam. Remember: pictures and colour are important as it makes it much easier to remember! You can even make up rhymes or songs to remember your work. Or you can put words to your favourite tune! Have a blast and GOOD LUCK!
Week 4 challenge
This week we looked at raw and manufactures materials. We will watch exciting video's about how each raw material is made into a product that we use today.
The paper

Week 9 challenge
I am SO excited for you all to write the NST Exam on Wednesday 15th June! To Get you ready for the types of questions that could be asked, your challenge is to do some revision activities from the NST text book. You can choose between (or you can do all of them):
1. Activity on pg. 52
2. Practice test (term 1) pg. 53 - 54
